Brass and Wood Ceiling Light: A Japandi Statement for Living Rooms

Brass and wood persimmon ceiling light with a white shade

In short: the LAMPCOZY brass and wood persimmon ceiling light is a hardwired, ceiling-mounted fixture made from brass and wood with a white shade. It comes in 3-lamp and 5-lamp versions, 26.8" and 30.7" in diameter, with a standard 19.7" hanging rod that can be extended. It is designed for living rooms, hallways, bedrooms, and hotel spaces. Bulbs are not included — it takes E26/E27 LED or Edison bulbs.

Most ceilings fail in one of two ways. Either they are covered in recessed cans that light the floor but never the room, or they carry a builder-grade flush mount that disappears the moment you stop looking at it. A sculptural fixture fixes both problems at once: it gives the eye something to land on, and it spreads warm light at eye level instead of pooling it on the carpet.

This piece sits in that category. The form is rounded and organic — the product page describes it as inspired by the shape of a persimmon — with brass framework, wood accents, and a white shade. If your room already has good bones (oak floors, warm neutrals, a decent sofa) and still feels unfinished, the ceiling is usually the missing layer. View the brass and wood persimmon ceiling light →

Why brass, wood, and a white shade read as quiet luxury

Three materials, three jobs. Brass brings reflection and a bit of age; wood brings warmth and grain; the white shade keeps the light from turning yellow or muddy. Put them together and you get a fixture that looks expensive without looking loud — the definition of the Japandi direction, where Japanese restraint meets Scandinavian practicality.

Finishes you can actually choose between

The body is offered in brass, dark wood, or natural wood, and the shade is white across all versions. That choice matters more than most buyers expect:

  • Natural wood blends into pale oak floors, cream walls, and linen upholstery. Safest choice for bright, airy rooms.
  • Dark wood holds its own against walnut furniture, deep green or charcoal walls, and rooms with a moodier evening feel.
  • Brass is the most reflective of the three, so it lifts a room that gets limited daylight. In a very bright, south-facing room it can read slightly shinier during the day — usually a feature, not a flaw.

Because the shade is white and the bulbs are exposed to it rather than filtered through tinted glass, color temperature is under your control instead of baked in. That is the single biggest reason this fixture photographs well in both warm and neutral interiors.

Pick the size before you pick the finish

Diameter is the decision that determines whether the fixture looks intentional or oversized. Measure the room's shortest wall and treat the fixture diameter as roughly one-third to one-half of it for a single-fixture room. Then use the table below.

Version Diameter Body height Where it works best
3-Lamp 26.8" / 68 cm 16.7" / 42.5 cm Bedrooms, hallways, small to mid-size living rooms
5-Lamp 30.7" / 78 cm 16.7" / 42.5 cm Larger living rooms and open lounge areas
3-Lamp (Tall) 26.8" / 68 cm 24.6" / 62.5 cm Ceilings of 9 ft and above, where the standard drop looks pinched
5-Lamp (Tall) 30.7" / 78 cm 24.6" / 62.5 cm High-ceiling living rooms and hospitality spaces

Body height is the fixture only — it does not include the hanging rod, so add the rod length on top when you calculate total drop.

Hanging height: the numbers that matter

These are working rules rather than rules of law — every room has its own sightlines — but they will get you to the right zone on the first try. Measure from the floor to the lowest point of the fixture, not to the ceiling canopy.

  • 8 ft ceiling: keep the lowest point at about 7 ft (84 in) above the floor. This leaves roughly 12 in of visual drop and keeps tall guests out of the shade.
  • 9 ft ceiling: drop the lowest point to about 7 ft 6 in. The Tall version is usually the better fit here.
  • 10 ft ceiling and above: 8 ft above the floor is a comfortable target, and the Tall body keeps the proportions from looking stranded.
  • Over a coffee table: 30–36 in between the tabletop and the lowest point of the fixture.
  • Hallway: no less than 6 ft 8 in (80 in) of clearance, centered on the door axis or on the midpoint of the run.
  • Bedroom: center the fixture on the room. If it lands over the bed, allow 30–36 in above the mattress so it stays out of your eyeline when you are lying down.

Two installation details worth confirming early

First, this is a hardwired ceiling fixture, so you need an existing ceiling box. If there is only a blank plaster patch where you want the light, budget for an electrician before you order. Second, the fixture is built for flat ceiling mounting. On a sloped or vaulted ceiling, additional mounting hardware is required — the manufacturer recommends having a professional electrician handle that install rather than improvising.

If you are lighting a long hallway, space repeat fixtures roughly 8–10 ft apart so the pools of light overlap slightly instead of leaving dark gaps between them.

Bulbs and color temperature

The fixture uses E26/E27 base bulbs and accepts either LED or Edison-style bulbs. Bulbs are not included, which is deliberate: the exposed-bulb look only works if you choose the bulb to match the room.

  • 2700K–3000K is the safe range for living rooms and bedrooms. Warm enough to feel residential, clean enough not to look orange.
  • Clear Edison bulbs lean vintage and show the filament; frosted LED bulbs lean softer and reduce glare at eye level. In a room where people sit facing the fixture, frosted is usually the more comfortable call.
  • If you want the fixture to carry the room on its own, aim for roughly 800 lumens per socket as a starting point, then adjust to taste. Three sockets at that level gives a bedroom or hallway plenty of ambient light.

A note on dimming

The fixture is specified to operate with common push switches. If dimming matters to you, use dimmable E26/E27 bulbs and confirm dimmer compatibility with the LAMPCOZY team before you buy the switch — the bulb and the dimmer both have to cooperate, and getting this wrong is the most common reason a new fixture flickers.

Is it right for your room?

It fits if: you want a focal fixture that does not shout; your ceiling is flat and at least 8 ft; you are lighting a living room, hallway, bedroom, or a hospitality space; and you are happy to choose bulbs yourself.

Look elsewhere if: you need bathroom or outdoor rated lighting (this one is IP20 and indoor only), your ceiling is sloped and you would rather not add hardware, or you want a plug-in fixture with no wiring work.

Before you order, check four things

  1. Ceiling height and the drop you actually want — then decide standard versus tall body.
  2. Room width, to sanity-check the 26.8" or 30.7" diameter.
  3. That there is a ceiling box where the fixture will hang.
  4. Bulb plan: base type, color temperature, and whether you want to dim.

If any of those are unclear, the LAMPCOZY team also handles custom dimensions, lighting layout advice, and expedited shipping for project timelines. Start with the product page →

Frequently asked questions

What bulbs does this ceiling light use?

It takes LED or Edison bulbs with an E26 or E27 base. Bulbs are not included, so you can choose the output and color temperature that suit the room. For living rooms and bedrooms, 2700K–3000K is the usual starting point.

Can the hanging height be adjusted?

Yes. The fixture ships with a 19.7" (50 cm) hanging rod that can be extended to suit your ceiling height. For unusual ceiling heights or a specific drop, contact LAMPCOZY support for a custom length before ordering.

Will it work on a sloped ceiling?

It is designed for flat ceiling mounting. Sloped installations require additional mounting hardware, and the manufacturer recommends a professional electrician for that work.

Is it dimmable?

The fixture is specified for standard push-switch control. If you want dimming, pair it with dimmable E26/E27 bulbs and confirm dimmer compatibility with support — both the bulb and the dimmer need to be compatible.

Can it go in a bathroom or outside?

No. The rating is IP20 and the fixture is intended for indoor use, so humid rooms and exterior locations are out of scope.
