The shade is handcrafted from translucent mulberry paper, derived from the inner bark of the mulberry tree, and hand-bonded over a slender metal frame in a clean white finish. Because the paper is built up through a meticulous hand-bonding process using paper and glue, minor traces of glue along the edges are a natural characteristic of the handcrafted construction rather than a flaw. When lit, the mulberry paper diffuses the bulb into a warm, even glow reminiscent of sunlight filtered through traditional paper screens, while the white metal canopy and fittings keep the look crisp and understated. The adjustable 59-inch (1.5m) cable lets you tune the hanging height over a dining table, bedside, or entryway, and the E26/E27 socket accepts either an LED bulb or an Edison bulb (bulbs not included) so you can choose the warmth and character of the light. Hardwired ceiling mounting and a damp-rated IP20 rating make it a practical choice for indoor spaces that are not exposed to moisture.
